Measuring Angles

compass directions What is an angle?

An angle is the amount you need to turn to change from one direction to another. For example, if you are facing East, by making a turn you can face Northeast, or North, depending on how much you turn, or the angle between the two directions.

Angles are measured in degrees. A right angle is 90 degrees or (90o). The angle between totally opposite directions, such as East and West, is 180 degrees (180o). Turning all the way around back to the same direction, you go through an angle of 360 degrees (360o).

protractorAngle Measuring

A protractor is a tool that measures angles. The semi-circular instrument allows you to measure directly any angle between 0o and 180o. And that is enough for all angles.

Now let's get some practice and do some measuring.
