Measuring Length

Measuring Waist Measuring Cloth Various rulers with standard markings are used to measure length. In the international standard metric system we use the meter (m) and the centimeter (cm, one 100th of a meter). In the US we also use the foot and inch (one 12th of a foot). One inch is 2.54 cm.

Now let's get some practice and do some measuring.

Measuring in CarpentryUse the inch and cm rulers to measure the red rectangle. And answer the following questions.

  1. The width is  inches.

  2. The height is  inches.

  3. The area of the red rectangle is  square inches.

  4. The perimeter of the red rectangle is  inches.

Now let's do it all over again, this time measuring in centimeters.

  1. The width is  centimeters.

  2. The height is  centimeters.

  3. The area of the red rectangle is  square centimeters.

  4. The perimeter of the red rectangle is  centimeters.
